Hair Journey...

I never really knew what the proper way of taking care of my hair was. I always assumed that my hair was long because of genes. Unfortunately, due to heat damage I have lost the length of my hair. So I decided to join some hair sites and youtube search, and I have come to realize that African American women are consumed with doubt. That if you see a Black woman with banging hair, that you will automatically assume that it is a weave. "A Black woman's hair cannot retain length". It is stereotypes like these that caused me to do some research.

I have learned that first and foremost, that Black hair does not retain length because it breaks off and is damaged. With that being said, in order to grow your hair you must take proper measures in taking care of it, whether it be with moisture, less heat, and more protective styles.

With my new found knowledge I started my Hair Journey on December 7, 2010. My hair is currently at shoulder length and and I a relaxed head. My goal length of hair is Bra-strap Length and I have 4b type hair, very thick and unmanageable. haha

Come with me on this journey to healthy looking hair. Because I noticed that if your hair looks good, you feel good!

Here are some pictures of my hair progression:

Early 2008: No perm but length (Blow dried)

Late 2008: Blow dried (My bangs were banging ahah I miss it)

Late 2010: Damaged ends! Washed and in desperate need of a perm)

Late 2010: Flat ironed (real thick)

Late 2010: Braid out -- No perms for about 6 months (new growth)

Dec 2010: Fresh perm and Blow Dry

Dec 2010: My last perm of the year

Dec 2010: I have been stretching my perms

So, these pictures are up close and personal.  But I plan to work on health, length, keep my thickness, and work on my ends. Wish me Luck!!

Red Hair?

So, I've been wanting to dye my hair a burgundy color since I was in middle school! Unfortunately, my mother at the time did not support my fashion endeavors hahah but I am truly considering it at the moment, but I doubt I will actually dye it. I might get a rinse or the cellophane wrap. Decisions Decisions.

Anyways, is it just me or is Rihanna's hair growing on you. I love the color of her hair but I think what threw me off was when she first debuted the fiery color and her hair looked unhealthy and fake. But now, I am in love. Rihanna seems to pull off anything she decides to do and I like that about her. If you like something, wear it or do it with confidence and then who knows, soon everyone might like it too. Personal Style is key!

Do ya HaRem?

Finally! I decided to whip out the MC Hammer pants!!! I remember way back in the day (-cough- the 90s) my mom had bought me a pair of these in a ridiculous color. And I hated them!!!!

They look somewhat like these!

She bought me those and some gauchos that were just heinous, but that's another story lol

Anyways, I am suprised that they were brought back and how chic and fashionable they look on! And to think I hated these bad boys!?

So, I wore this outfit to a club meeting! I work in uniform during the day, so why not dress up later on, even if it's just a boring ole meeting? I feel like if I don't dress up, I am just itching to get near a closet and think up something!

Well, enough of me babbling, enjoy the pics!

Btdubs! I painted my nails a new color! Let me know if you like it!! :)

Do you...

ever think about our purpose in life about what the future holds for us. that we will never amount to anything.
that you will never reach your goals but when you do it makes all the work put in ten times better.
that there is something else out there beyond our intelligence beyond reach but the thought of reaching it is arcane and mere contentment for the only knowledge that society has fed us.
that we will never be able to settle for less because settling for less than the best is just relinquishing our boundless potential.
that at times we just feel like giving up and saying eff the world.
yet we continue to delve into life head first without any knee pads a helmet or shin guards.
that there will be a world in which we will not pass judgements on one another solely on physical attributes, race, religion.
but rather the content of who they they are.
ever feel fearful.
of life.
of expectations.
of your own.
of others.
think optimistically.
overlook the little things, which in some cases are the most significant.
question the world and its motives.
love.
whole heartedly.
unequivocally.
unconditionally.
that you will ever be free from constraint.
comfortable in yourself?
